Dell Laptop Computers
Dell have announced and widely publicised a product recall
concerning batteries for their range of laptops. The recall only
affects the batteries and not the lap top itself.
As a part of our timing systems, Swiss Timing have supplied
customers with laptops which may be affected by this product
recall by Dell. Swiss Timing therefore recommend that customers
do not turn on their Dell laptop until they have satisfied
themselves that it is safe to do so, or have removed the
battery.
While it is possible to operate the laptop without a battery by
connecting the mains power adapter provided with the laptop,
customers should also check their venue's health and safety
policies concerning the use of mains powered devices. This is
especially relevant for users of aquatics timing systems.
You can find out details of whether your battery is subject to
the recall, and the steps to take in order to have the battery
replaced by Dell, by visiting the following web site: www.dellbatteryprogram.com
For further information or enquiries you can call the Dell
support number on 00800 3033 4044 and follow the instructions on
the automated service.

Pavilion Theatre Theatre, Dun
Laoghaire.

The Pavilion Theatre has a new public
information display designed and installed by ourselves. Taking
pride of place over the main entrance to the theatre, passers by
on the busy street can now see about forthcoming attractions,
ticket prices and availability. The 24cm high display offers
superb visibility too.
An interesting design brief, fitting the display across four
window panels measuring a total of eight metres in length. Our
solution of fabricating four self contained pieces, engineered
to fit exactly into each window space, which minimised the gaps
to be solely caused by the window frame itself.
The display's internal controller is network enabled and can be
updated directly from a windows computer on the owner's network
infrastructure.
This is our first display to use the super bright
blue LED's and we expect the installation to create a great deal
of interest in the non-sports market.

Maidenhead and Windsor Council Upgrade Timing System With Ares and LED Display
Magnet LC, Maidenhead has just completed a major renovation of its 12 year old timing system with installation of a new full matrix LED display.
The flexibility of the Galactica control system and ability to use the display for general information and advertising purposes persuaded Royal

The display replaced the obsolete multi-line UNT4 numeric scoreboard system which was installed with original system purchase in 1992. RBWM also replaced the aging OSM6 with a new
ARES 21 interface, associated PC equipment and added some other timing peripherals.
It is planned that this refurbishment should see the timing system provide many further years of constant and reliable service.
